This month there are 3 game reviews to look at. Metal Gear Solid, Monkey Hero and Premier Manager 99.
Metal Gear Solid
"Tactical Espionage Action" is Metal Gear Solid's sub title and it is just that, you are the famous Solid Snake brought out of retirement for one last mission(konami obviously aren't renowned for their originallity). The idea of the game rescue the DARPA Chief and disable the bases nuclear capability, simple I hear you cry, WRONG. Now try to do the game when the darpa Chief dies upon meeting him and the bases nuclear capability is a 50 foot high robot commanded by the infamous liquid snake, who, for some inobvious reason has a grudge against Solid Snake. The game gets simpler as you go through, suvive a torture session by prssing the o button repeatedly, kill a boss with the fire power of a small country, shoot down a heavily armed hind helicopter, destroy Metal Gear Rex and drive out of the complex firing at an unending number of guards into the Alaska sun, ten minutes gameplay I'm sure. The game also includes a VR training arena where you learn to snap a guards neck, when to leave well alone and the respectable art of running away. If you complete the game you are awarded a ranking in the name of an animal(another origianal idea from Konami). The gameplay in this game is excellent, you can go in all guns blazing or sneak around picking of the occasional unsuspecting guard.

Premier Manager 99 is destined to become the best football manager sim on the playstation after Player Manager 98-99 had all the stats but almost no gameplay. Some people say that football management sims were only for real hard core football fans but at Playstation World we disagree. As an avid hater of football I found Premier Manager fun and engrosing as I hate playing football games on the playstation this was a suprise but as there is no gameplay it makes it a whole lot easier. For me the training option is very odd and I still haven't quite worked out the career option. Premier Manager allows you to manage teams in all the English devision's as well as Italys Serie A and B, these two country's leauges will run side by side and you can also test your teams metal in the eqivilent of the UEFA Champions League. Premier Manager 99 has a great many improvements from the 98 edition, such as realistic retirements because in the 98 edition it was quite possible to see Ryan Giggs scoring goals at 50.
